My particular interest in healing sound probably came to me already in the womb, because my
mother was a pianist and my father was a doctor. It is the healing and transformative power of sound that interests me most.

If sound can introduce form and pattern into matter then there is something essential about sound. I realised that this theme is common to many traditions, which consider sound the principal creative force in the universe. This suggests that human beings have always known that everything in the world has its identity because of the periodicity and the regularity of its movement and that this is what makes one thing separate from another, and gives it
form.

Within the last decade, the use of sound as a healing modality is coming more into focus in both the scientific and medical communities. There now exist such organisations as the International Society for Music in Medicine and the International Arts Medicine Association which draw together doctors, scientists and others working with sound as a therapeutic tool.

It works like this, according to the Sept. 13 New York Times www.nytimes.com:

Following the work of German physicist and acoustician, Ernt F.Fchladni, who towards the end of the 18th century, created intricate sand patterns by vibrating a steel plate with a violin bow, Dr Jenny employed the modern technology of the day to carry out more precisely replicable experiments. Using a sine wave generator and a speaker to vibrate various powders, pastes and liquids, Jenny succeeded in making visible the subtle power through sound structures matter.

Her life of courage, determination and extraordinary transformation offers hope to others and is also one of joy and beauty.

One of twins, born eleven weeks premature, Anna spent her first three months in hospital and has since strived bravely, against all odds, providing proof that miracles can and do happen.

Angels are traditionally found in the Judaic, Christian, Islamic and the earlier Zoroastrian fire religion. The word angel comes from the Latin angelus, which stems from the Greek aggelos, which is a translation of the Hebrew word malakh, meaning a messenger. Angels, in formal religion are regarded as intermediaries between God or the gods and humankind.

Angels have over the centuries, especially in the Jewish mystical system called the Kabbalah (much beloved by the popular singer Madonna) and in mediaeval angelology, became associated with the powers of the four Elements - Earth, Air, Fire and Water - as well as the four directions - North, East, South and West; the four winds; the seven older planets; and the twelve zodiacal constellations.

Mantras can be used for various effects. They have a creative power and they can attract specific situations and conditions as they dynamically change the auric field of the individual. They also can have a destructive power that can be used to shatter or repel negative energies. They have the power to synthesize our energies, bringing harmony on all levels of our being. In tantra, there are ten karmas of mantras (ten uses):

You will notice that we write brain/mind linked together. This is based on Dr. Carl Pribram's view of the brain and "the mind," which is that "the mind" is a process that runs parallel to physiological processes within the brain.

frances

There was a time when the loudest sound one heard was the sound of people chanting. Medieval artwork depicts people working in the fields and their mouths are open which shows they were singing while they were working. Sounds of birds singing and cracks of thunder were other natural sounds that people heard regularly.

Gregorian chant uses one full breath to sing an entire line. Both listening to and singing this type of music brings your attention, consciously and unconsciously, to the breath. Entrainment is the process where consistent external rhythms cause our internal pulse systems (heart, breath, brainwaves) to speed up or slow down. Robert Monroe has demonstrated how sound entrains the brain. And, when the brain is entrained to wholesome sound, then it can support the body in its innate wellbeing.

frances

Everything vibrates. Everything in the body vibrates, all at its own special frequency. This is a scientific fact. When we are thrown out of balance through physical, emotional or psychic shocks, parts of our bodies and psyche can weaken or overload, creating distorted and unbalanced vibrations. The Chinese have known this for centuries, and the recognition of this over concentration or lack of energy is the basis for the traditional healing art of Acupuncture and the more recently, Kinesiology.

We have found in our research that the electrical signals of plants can be converted into sound and we have been recording these plant sounds for some nine years. From these recordings we have been able to create a Plant Sound Library

In their visionary art the Shipibo create complex geometric patterns which convey an all pervading magical reality which can challenge the Western linguistic heritage and rational mind.
We are often unaware of the significance of sound in our daily lives. Constant bombardment from all sides by a seemingly endless number and variety of sounds is part of our complex and increasingly technological civilization.

Sound is the manifestation and projection of the three dimensional reality. It is a major contributing factor to the orientation and focus of our present state of conscious awareness. The principal difference between the undirected, random and distracting sounds of daily life and directed esoteric sound is that the latter produces synthesis and harmony instead of dissonance. Esoteric sound, employed in the presence of quiet solitude and thoughtful introspection, is a major factor in achieving higher levels of conscious awareness...

The Ancients used the healing power of sound in chant and song and developed music through the invention of early tools such as shakers, rattles and drums. These tools were further perfected and became the vast array of musical instruments we know today.

When sound waves come into contact with our bodies they cause an internal vibration which affects the movement pattern of our cells. Initially, the vibration is picked up by our nervous system and the change in movement is reported to the brain. The brain then communicates back, causing an alteration in our emotional mood which in turn harmonises and rebalances our internal energies.

Listening to pure Pythagorean intervals is a method of attunement with Sacred Sound. Through the act of tapping two tuning forks together we can hear Sacred ratios. These ratios are formed in nature and are considered by the ancients to be a fundamental part of the human soul or psyche. Each interval can potentially awaken within us a deep universal archetype. We can understand this best by first looking at the theory of resonance.

Atlantis is said to have been an extremely sophisticated culture, its citizen possessed of a highly developed knowledge of science and technology as well as the healing arts. Among the tales Ive read about Atlanteans is that they travelled by flying ships, which were fuelled with solar energy that had been transformed into a power source by specially cut quartz crystals.

I have come to see Immunity in a much larger context than just our physical immune response to pathogens. From a biological perspective, our immune systems are a way to determine self from non-self. If something invades our bodies (say a bacteria or a virus) our immune systems quickly ascertain if they are a part of us or not. If they are not recognized as a part of our personal biology, then our immune systems mobilize their resources to destroy the toxic invaders.
